Hi! I’m Emily.
I am a Chicago based artist and designer with a love of creation and a compulsion to keep my hands busy. I love beautiful objects, I love texture, I love unexpected forms and color, I love precise craft and experimentation.
My professional background is in graphic design, which often felt at odds with my desire to have a very tactile, physical thing to show for my work. Over the years though, all of those passions and skills have come together to make each other better and I’ve managed to combine them into work that is unmistakably my own.
I am deeply interested in the space that exists between art and design and craft. That intersection is where the magic happens for me, and quilting has been my perfect tool to bring that to life.
My current body of work, as well as the ability to support myself through my art began in 2020. My husband died unexpectedly at the beginning of the year, and that tragedy was followed by the loss of my job due to the pandemic. I allowed myself the space to process and begin healing, and a big piece of that was making whatever I wanted to make without any outside pressure.
I spent months experimenting and following the rabbit holes that gave me the most joy, just to see where they went. And of course the things I was most excited about resonated with so many other people as well, and my own personal explorations expanded into what my work is today.
It’s a lifelong dream come true in the midst of so much grief and uncertainty. I can’t thank you enough for your interest in my work, which makes this new life as a working artist a reality.
I live in Chicago with my cat, Laszlo. I design and make everything in my home studio. You can find me soaking in the beauty out at Lake Michigan, all year round.
